Looking For A New Style!

I'm Terry Lennon, an experienced licensed hair stylist certified by Great Lengths® to add length and volume to your hair with the addition of hair extensions.  I have been styling hair for more than 12 years at Signature Hair Design in Ellicott City where I have continued my education in the beauty industry by training with leaders in Redken, Matrix, Goldwell, Bumble and Bumble, and Coppola Keratin.

If you're interested in a change I can offer a new cut & style, haircoloring, an updo, permanent wave and hair extensions.  The color lines I offer are Matrix, Redken, and Goldwell.  I will recommend the product line and type of color (permanent or semi-permanent) for my clients based on their needs.  Your first visit will include consultation time if you mention the fact that you are a new client when you schedule your appointment.  If you would rather consult with me before you come in for your actual hair appointment, you can call and ask for a consultation.  This is essential if you are interested in getting hair extensions.

"What would you do with my hair?"

This is the question I am asked most.  Before I can answer that I need to know whether your hair is straight, wavy or curly.  Is your hair texture coarse, medium or fine.  What are your expectations of your style.  Do you need a low maintenance style or do you have time to devote to daily styling and routine care.  For example, a client wishing to maximize straight, fine hair while keeping a smooth style may choose highlighting for added texture.  A client who wants a "wash & go" wavy style may choose a body wave.  If you have thin and/or fine hair you may be interested in adding fullness with hair extensions.  If you want longer hair and are tired of waiting for it to grow, hair extensions may be the answer you are looking for. Often the most immediate solution for a client's needs is simply products.  I, as well as all of the staff at Signature Hair Design, am dedicated to educating clients about which products would benefit their individual needs.  Using the correct products will enhance your style.  All of this information can be discussed during your consultation.

"My hair always looks great when I leave the salon. Why can't I do the same at home?"

My answer is, "are you using the same products, brush and technique I used to style your hair?"  It has been said, "If you continue to do what you always do, you will always get what you always get."  Even a great haircut won't look its best without the proper styling products and tools.

"Does it really matter which shampoo and conditioner I use?"

If you have healthy hair that has never been chemically altered, the answer is "Not really."  HOWEVER, if your hair is dry, coarse, frizzy, chemically altered or otherwise unhealthy/unruly, the answer is 'YES."

"Why is shampoo and conditioner important?"

The ingredients in most low cost shampoos and conditioners are simply just not kind enough to hair that is "challenged."  The professional products available at Signature Hair Design are considerate of both the appearance of your hair and the health of your hair.  Sure you can purchase a bottle of "anti-frizz" shampoo and conditioner from $3-7 dollars at your local store but what is in it? -  mostly waxes and silicones that make the hair appear shiny and less frizzy, but over time, build up on the hair causing dullness and dryness!  As a consumer, always read the ingredients listed on the label.

"What is the difference between the hair color I can buy at the local store and what you use in the salon?"

This is a valid question.  What is the big difference?   Well, there are a few technical differences and, quite honestly, a couple practical advantages of salon hair color services.

Technical Differences Between Store Bought & Salon Color

  • Salon hair color is available in any array of color shades and tones, instead of just light, medium, dark and neutral, ash, and golden.
  • Salon hair color is formulated for each individual client by a trained professional hair colorist, guaranteeing personalized and more accurate results.
  • Salon hair color contains oxidative dyes, that ensure more predictable results, whereas store bought colors usually contain less costly metallic dyes that are less predictable.
  • Salon hair color is balanced with emollients and conditioners to improve hair texture, not just temporary elixirs that add shine after application but wash out immediately.

Practical Advantages of Salon Hair Color Services

  • There is no mess to clean up when you receive your color service in the salon.  First time salon color clients have actually said it was their family who encouraged them to NOT do their hair color at home!
  • You get to relax, enjoy a refreshment, read, or even get a manicure while your color processes.  Doesn't that sound more appealing than doing laundry, vacuuming, or making dinner?  Many clients think so!
